A total of 4,264.8 hectares of land were cleared of mines and made safe during search operations conducted in the liberated territories of Azerbaijan throughout February, according to official data.
As reported by the Operative Information Center-OMM, the monthly report released by the Mine Action Agency of the Republic of Azerbaijan (ANAMA) states that 71 anti-tank mines, 410 anti-personnel mines, and 1,621 unexploded ordnances (UXO) were discovered and neutralized during the reporting period.
The large-scale demining operations were carried out jointly by ANAMA, the Ministry of Defense, the Ministry of Emergency Situations, the State Border Service, and four private companies. The clearance activities covered the regions of Tartar, Aghdara, Kalbajar, Aghdam, Khojaly, Khankendi, Shusha, Khojavand, Lachin, Fuzuli, Jabrayil, Qubadli, and Zangilan.
The demining of liberated territories remains a top priority for the government of Azerbaijan to ensure the safe return of internally displaced persons and the sustainable development of the region. Since the end of the 2020 conflict, Azerbaijan has faced a massive challenge due to the high density of landmines and explosive remnants of war. The ongoing humanitarian demining efforts are essential for the restoration of infrastructure, agriculture, and the implementation of the "Great Return" program across the Garabagh and East Zangezur economic regions.
