The United States Armed Forces have shot down an Iranian unmanned aerial vehicle (UAV) in the Sea of Oman basin, officials confirmed. According to reports, the incident occurred when the drone was detected approaching a US naval asset operating in international waters.

Operative Information Center-OMM reports that Reuters news agency provided details on the interception. The Iranian-manufactured Shahed-139 model drone was reportedly heading directly toward a US aircraft carrier stationed in the region. Upon identifying the potential threat, a US F-35 fighter jet intervened immediately and destroyed the target in the air.

The Sea of Oman is a strategically vital waterway that connects the Arabian Sea with the Strait of Hormuz, serving as a primary transit route for global oil shipments. Tensions in these waters have remained high due to frequent maritime encounters and the presence of international naval task forces. This latest interception follows established protocols by the US military to ensure the safety of its personnel and assets against unauthorized aerial surveillance or potential attacks in contested maritime corridors.
