The Ministry of Internal Affairs of Kazakhstan has successfully apprehended members of a transnational organized criminal group operating within the country. According to the Operative Information Center-OMM, the details of the operation were disclosed by Kuandyk Alpys, a representative of the Department for Combating Organized Crime under the Ministry of Internal Affairs.
The investigation originated from the murder of a Kazakhstani citizen in Istanbul, who was fatally shot. Through coordinated efforts between law enforcement agencies in Kazakhstan, Georgia, and Turkey, two individuals responsible for the execution of the crime were identified and detained.
"During the investigation, the motive for the murder was established, and the organizers and masterminds—who are representatives of the transnational criminal underworld and were on the international wanted list—were identified. The information obtained has facilitated the resolution of other crimes committed by members of this transnational criminal group on the territory of Kazakhstan," Alpys stated.
In a related development, authorities also apprehended a hitman linked to the group who had attempted to assassinate an Almaty resident in August 2025.
The investigation into the case has concluded, and the criminal files have been forwarded to the court. The Ministry of Internal Affairs, in collaboration with counterparts from Georgia and Turkey, conducted a phased special operation to dismantle the network. Several members of the criminal structure, accused of involvement in multiple armed attacks in Almaty, have been taken into custody.
Transnational organized crime remains a significant security challenge for Central Asian nations. Such operations highlight the increasing importance of cross-border intelligence sharing and international police cooperation in neutralizing criminal syndicates that operate across multiple jurisdictions.
