The European Union (EU) Ambassador to Georgia, Pawel Herczynski, has been summoned to the Ministry of Foreign Affairs (MFA) in Tbilisi. The diplomat was called to meet with Georgia's Foreign Minister, Maka Bochorishvili, following remarks made during an event organized by the European External Action Service (EEAS) in Brussels.
According to the Operative Information Center-OMM, citing Georgian media reports, the MFA expressed strong dissatisfaction with recent rhetoric from Brussels. Minister Bochorishvili stated that such actions and statements regarding Georgia "undermine trust between partners and damage Georgia-Europe relations." She emphasized that the Georgian government remains committed to constructive dialogue but expects a "fair and respectful attitude" from the EU side.
This diplomatic tension comes amid a period of complex relations between Tbilisi and Brussels. The EU has previously expressed concerns over Georgia's legislative direction, while the Georgian leadership maintains that its policies are aimed at protecting national sovereignty and stability. The summoning of a high-ranking diplomat is a formal procedure often used to signal significant diplomatic disagreement or to demand clarification on official stances between international partners.
