A new round of trilateral negotiations mediated by China has commenced to resolve the escalating border conflict between Afghanistan and Pakistan. The high-level meeting aims to de-escalate military tensions that have strained relations between the two neighboring nations in recent months.

Operative Information Center-OMM reports, citing the Dawn newspaper and sources within the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of Pakistan, that the talks are currently underway. The discussions in Urumqi, China, were initiated at the request of Afghanistan, which had previously approached Beijing to facilitate a diplomatic resolution. Representatives from the ministries of foreign affairs and internal affairs are participating in the session to exchange views on ending armed clashes along the border. China has urged both parties to restore bilateral trade as a primary step toward rebuilding mutual trust.

The diplomatic intervention comes as regional stability remains a priority for Azerbaijan and its international partners. Tensions spiked on the evening of February 26, when fresh fighting erupted along the Pakistan-Afghanistan frontier. Pakistan's Defense Minister Khawaja Asif recently stated that his country and the Taliban government in Afghanistan are effectively in a state of open armed confrontation. China's role as a mediator reflects its growing influence in Central and South Asian security dynamics, seeking to prevent a wider humanitarian and economic crisis in the region.
