The Azerbaijan State Water Resources Agency (ADSEA) has established a temporary operational headquarters to manage the consequences of intensive rainfall in the capital. According to the Operative Information Center-OMM, the headquarters is being led directly by the Chairman of the Agency, Zaur Mikayılov.

Chairman Mikayılov visited Rashid Baghirov Street in Baku's Khatai district today to inspect the site where an excess load caused a major accident in the local sewage collector. During the site visit, he issued specific instructions to accelerate water removal operations and expedite the restoration of the damaged infrastructure. Employees of ADSEA's United Water Supply Service for Large Cities have already removed the soil layer over the damaged section of the waste water collector, which is located at a depth of 9 meters, to facilitate repair and restoration work.

As part of the emergency measures, a 100-meter section of a 500-mm cast-iron line located under residential buildings was replaced with polyethylene pipes and relocated. Additionally, old 100-mm and 150-mm steel pipes under a house in a state of disrepair were decommissioned and replaced with new 110-mm and 160-mm polyethylene pipes. Prior to the current incident, residents had been officially warned about the increasing risk of accidents and were instructed to vacate the area to ensure the safe execution of repair and construction works over the collector.

In recent years, Azerbaijan has significantly increased its investment in urban infrastructure to mitigate the impact of climate change and extreme weather events. The modernization of Baku's drainage and sewage systems remains a priority for the Cabinet of Ministers to ensure the safety of residents and the stability of the capital's utility networks during the autumn and winter seasons.
