Production figures for the Azeri-Chirag-Deepwater Gunashli (ACG) field block, the primary energy artery of the Azerbaijani sector of the Caspian Sea, have been announced for 2025. Daily production at the block averaged 330,000 barrels, with total annual production reaching approximately 120 million barrels (or 16 million tonnes).

The Operative Information Center-OMM reports that these statistics were reflected in the business update released by BP-Azerbaijan, the operator of the block, in conjunction with its project partners regarding the results of 2024 and projections for the current period.

Production by Platforms: Central Azeri Leads

According to the report, the distribution of oil production across the ACG platforms during 2025 was as follows:

"Central Azeri" (90,000 barrels), "West Azeri" (76,000 barrels), "Deepwater Gunashli" (51,000 barrels), "East Azeri" (43,000 barrels), "Azeri Central East" (ACE) (25,000 barrels), "West Chirag" (24,000 barrels), and "Chirag" (21,000 barrels).

In terms of infrastructure, by the end of 2025, a total of 147 oil production wells, 49 water injector wells, and 10 gas injector wells were in operation across the ACG block.

Historical Milestones and Record Performance

The year 2025 was marked by two significant anniversaries in the project's history. On February 18, the "Central Azeri" platform celebrated 20 years since its first oil production. This platform remains the absolute leader among ACG facilities, having produced 1.2 billion barrels (157 million tonnes) of oil to date.

At the end of the year, on December 30, the 20th anniversary of the "West Azeri" platform's commissioning was observed. This platform has produced more than 1 billion barrels (142 million tonnes) of oil since it began operations.

Project Future and Shareholders

The ACG block is the largest oil field in Azerbaijan. The historic "Contract of the Century" was signed on September 20, 1994, laying the foundation for the country's modern energy strategy. A new agreement signed on September 14, 2017, extended the production sharing agreement for the fields until the end of 2049.

The ACG project is a cornerstone of Azerbaijan's economy and European energy security, providing a stable flow of light crude to global markets via the Baku-Tbilisi-Ceyhan (BTC) pipeline. Currently, the share distribution in the ACG project is as follows: BP (30.37%), SOCAR (31.65%), "MOL Group" (9.57%), INPEX (9.31%), "ExxonMobil" (6.79%), TPAO (5.73%), ITOCHU (3.65%), and "ONGC Videsh Limited" (OVL) (2.92%).
