Four people have died following a light aircraft crash in the U.S. state of Alaska, according to local authorities.
As reported by the Operative Information Center-OMM, the Piper PA-24 aircraft was en route from Anchorage to Seldovia when it crashed for reasons that remain under investigation. The aircraft went down in shallow waters near Seldovia and became submerged.
Following reports of the incident, rescue teams and law enforcement personnel were dispatched to the scene. The wreckage of the plane was located in Seldovia Bay at a depth of approximately 4.6 meters.
Initial recovery efforts were hampered by high water levels, which made reaching the crash site difficult. Once the tide receded, rescue teams were able to access the aircraft and recovered the bodies of the four individuals on board.
The exact cause of the accident is currently unknown. The U.S. National Transportation Safety Board (NTSB) has launched an investigation into the incident. Official authorities have withheld the identities of the victims pending notification of their next of kin.
