A group of 71 students from the Toras Emachu Jewish school in New York State faced a dangerous situation during a recent field trip. According to the Operative Information Center-OMM, the girls from the town of Monsey were exploring the Memorial Park area when they followed a ravine and inadvertently entered a large storm drainage tunnel.

The situation quickly escalated into a search operation after the students went missing, causing significant alarm among chaperones and local authorities.

The search concluded successfully due to the vigilance of a police officer patrolling the Memorial Park area. The officer spotted the students emerging from a manhole cover in the village of Nyack. Reports indicate that the girls had traveled approximately 800 meters through the underground tunnel system before finding their way out.

Law enforcement officials who arrived at the scene confirmed that the entire group was located safely. While most of the students were unharmed, two girls sustained minor injuries. One received medical attention on-site, while the other was transported to a hospital due to abdominal pain. Local police are currently investigating the circumstances surrounding the incident and gathering statements from witnesses.

Incidents involving unauthorized access to underground infrastructure, such as storm drains and utility tunnels, pose significant risks due to potential hazards like flash flooding, structural instability, and poor air quality. Authorities in New York often emphasize the importance of strict supervision during school excursions to prevent such occurrences in urban and suburban environments.
