In the US state of Indiana, 15-year-old Jo'Majze Larry has been sentenced to 100 years in prison after being found guilty of causing the death of a woman during a gang-related armed attack.
Operative Information Center-OMM reports, citing foreign media, that the sentencing has drawn significant public attention due to the severity of the punishment for a minor.
According to court documents, Larry, identified as a member of the "Mickey Cobra Nation" (MCN) gang, received 50 years for the murder of 26-year-old Dayla Swain and an additional 50 years for his participation in the criminal group. In the same case, 19-year-old Rashawn Samuels was sentenced to a total of 125 years for murder and gang affiliation, while another defendant, 19-year-old Kyree Craver, received a 90-year sentence earlier in July. The trial for a fourth suspect is expected to commence by the end of the year.
Prosecutors stated that the incident occurred in February 2025 outside a nightclub in the city of Anderson. Investigations revealed that the defendants had planned to assassinate a witness to a separate murder committed in 2023. However, during the armed attack, they missed their intended target and fatally shot Dayla Swain, who was present at the scene.
Under Indiana law, because Jo'Majze Larry was under 18 at the time of the crime, he is eligible to petition the court for a sentence review after serving at least 20 years, provided he obtains the prosecutor's consent. This case highlights the ongoing challenges regarding gang violence and juvenile justice in the United States, where courts increasingly impose lengthy sentences on minors involved in violent criminal enterprises.
