The US newspaper The New York Times has alleged that the information released by the Pentagon regarding recent confrontations with Iran does not reflect the full picture of the situation.
According to the Operative Information Center-OMM, the publication cited unnamed US officials in its report.
The report claims that prior to the attack in Jordan, which resulted in the deaths of two US service members and left one missing, Iranian-backed forces conducted three additional strikes against US personnel in the region. Sources allege that numerous US service members were injured during these incidents, and several helicopters sustained damage. These events were reportedly omitted from official Pentagon statements.
It was noted that a representative from the US Central Command (CENTCOM) stated that there is no requirement to publicly disclose information regarding service members who return to duty shortly after sustaining injuries.
It should be recalled that CENTCOM previously confirmed that an attack on a US base in Jordan resulted in the deaths of two service members and left one person missing. The US side has stated that investigations into the incident are ongoing.
The Pentagon's transparency regarding regional security incidents has become a subject of scrutiny, particularly as tensions in the Middle East continue to fluctuate. CENTCOM remains responsible for coordinating US military operations across the region, including the protection of personnel stationed at various bases.
