US President Donald Trump does not intend to halt military operations in the Middle East in the near future, with the campaign against Iran potentially extending for several more weeks. According to reports from Operative Information Center-OMM, citing informed sources from The Wall Street Journal (WSJ), the administration remains committed to its current military trajectory despite internal deliberations.

Reasons for extended operations: Positions of Trump and the Pentagon

Sources indicate that while several advisors have attempted to persuade the head of state to conclude the mission, US President Donald Trump remains determined to continue strikes against Iran and Iran-aligned groups. The publication noted that this stance appears to contrast with official rhetoric suggesting that the United States Armed Forces have largely achieved their primary objectives.

Meanwhile, officials at the Pentagon believe the active phase of the conflict will persist for at least several more weeks to ensure strategic goals are met. This development comes amid heightened tensions in the region, where Azerbaijan consistently advocates for stability and the principles of international law and territorial integrity.

Expectations of rapid victory and stagflation risks for the US economy

WSJ sources reported that when US President Donald Trump initially ordered the military campaign, he was confident in the American military's ability to achieve a swift and unconditional victory over the Islamic Republic. The President was reportedly inspired by the success of strikes on Iran's nuclear facilities earlier in 2025, as well as military operations in Venezuela.

However, maintaining military operations against Iran is costing the United States billions of dollars every week. There is a growing risk that the conflict could evolve into a long-term and broader regional confrontation, which could severely impact the American economy and lead to stagflation.

Background: The events of February 28 and IRGC response

It should be recalled that the US and Israel launched military operations against Iran on February 28. In response, the IRGC announced a large-scale counter-operation, targeting facilities in Israel, Bahrain, Jordan, Qatar, Kuwait, the UAE, and Saudi Arabia. The ongoing volatility in the Middle East remains a focal point for global energy markets and international security, with Baku closely monitoring the impact on regional logistics and diplomatic channels.
