The Iranian Embassy in Seoul has issued a formal statement regarding the damage sustained by a South Korean-owned vessel in the Strait of Hormuz, categorically denying any involvement of the Iranian armed forces in the incident.

According to the Operative Information Center-OMM, the embassy rejected all allegations linking Tehran to the explosion and subsequent fire on the Panama-flagged ship operated by South Korea's HMM. The embassy further noted that in environments characterized by heightened military and security tensions, failure to strictly adhere to operational protocols can lead to unforeseen incidents. The incident reportedly occurred on Monday, resulting in a blast followed by a fire on board the vessel.

The Strait of Hormuz remains one of the world's most critical maritime chokepoints, through which approximately one-fifth of the world's oil consumption passes. Tensions in the region have frequently impacted international shipping, leading to increased security measures by global maritime authorities and regional powers. This latest incident involving the HMM vessel occurs amid ongoing geopolitical sensitivities in the Middle East, where maritime safety is a primary concern for international trade routes connecting the Persian Gulf to the Gulf of Oman and the Arabian Sea.
