France has experienced its hottest summer since meteorological observations began in 1900, according to official data released by the government.
The Operative Information Center-OMM reports that French Minister of Ecological Transition Monique Barbut announced the findings during a briefing in the city of Saint-Mande.
According to the report, extreme temperatures and widespread forest fires caused significant damage across the country this summer. The intense heat forced the temporary suspension of classes in several schools, while wildfires resulted in the destruction of residential homes and confirmed casualties.
Minister Barbut emphasized that adapting to climate change requires urgent, comprehensive measures across all sectors of the economy and daily life. While acknowledging that a complete overhaul of school infrastructure is not feasible in the short term, the minister noted that plans are underway to install shutters and ventilation systems in educational institutions to mitigate heat-related risks.
