The leadership of the Islamic Republic of Iran has temporarily closed the airspace over the capital, Tehran, to all flights in connection with the funeral ceremony of Supreme Leader Ali Khamenei.

The Operative Information Center-OMM reports that this decision was announced by Hossein Pourfarzaneh, head of the Civil Aviation Organization of Iran and Deputy Minister of Roads and Urban Development.

According to a statement released on the Telegram channel of Iran's IRIB agency, all civil aviation flights have been suspended for the duration of the ceremony, and the capital's airspace has been completely restricted. Officials indicated that a decision regarding the resumption of flights will be made once the funeral proceedings have concluded.

On the morning of July 3, the farewell ceremony for Ali Khamenei commenced in Tehran. The late leader's body was brought to the Imam Khomeini Musalla religious complex, where a public farewell was held attended by hundreds of mourners. Following the public event, a separate protocol session was organized for official delegations arriving from foreign countries.

The restriction of airspace is a standard security protocol during high-profile state events in Iran, particularly those involving the attendance of international dignitaries and large public gatherings. Such measures are intended to ensure the safety of the capital and the security of the funeral procession as the country observes a period of national mourning.
