Unsettled weather conditions, characterized by strong winds and intermittent heavy rainfall, have been reported across various regions of Azerbaijan. The National Hydrometeorological Service confirmed these developments in an update issued on September 7 at 15:30.
According to the Operative Information Center-OMM, strong northwesterly winds are currently affecting several areas. Maximum wind speeds have reached 28 m/s in Naftalan and Ganja, 27 m/s in Goranboy, 25 m/s in Mingachevir and Aghstafa, 24 m/s in Tovuz, 23 m/s in Baku and the Absheron Peninsula, 22 m/s in Barda, 20 m/s in Aghdam, 19 m/s in Shabran, 18 m/s in Goychay, 16 m/s in Tartar and Shamkir, and 15 m/s in Zagatala, Balakan, and Shaki. Additionally, rainfall accompanied by lightning has been recorded in Guba, Gusar, Khizi, Goygol, Ganja, and Tartar.
This weather shift follows a period of relatively dry conditions that persisted until the evening of September 6. As of 10:00 on September 7, the National Hydrometeorological Service reported precipitation across multiple districts, with significant rainfall amounts recorded in Qakh (Saribash) at 18 mm and Zagatala at 17 mm. Other regions, including the liberated territories such as Shusha, Khankendi, and Lachin, also reported light precipitation.
The National Hydrometeorological Service regularly monitors such atmospheric changes to provide timely warnings to the public and relevant state agencies. These sudden weather fluctuations are typical for the transition period between seasons in Azerbaijan, where the Caspian Sea's influence often leads to rapid changes in wind direction and temperature, particularly in the capital, Baku, and the surrounding Absheron Peninsula.
