Funeral ceremonies are being held across Iran for military personnel and civilians killed in recent airstrikes targeting the country's southern and western regions. According to the Operative Information Center-OMM, the services included families of victims who were struck during a wedding ceremony in the port city of Sirik.

Reports indicate that 19 military personnel and civilians have lost their lives during the week-long aerial campaign. Iranian officials have condemned the attacks as a "barbaric act" and a "war crime," asserting that civilian infrastructure was deliberately targeted.

Tehran has vowed to respond to the US attacks within the framework of international law. Following the strikes, reports emerged that Iran's Revolutionary Guard and army forces launched drone and ballistic missile attacks on US bases in Jordan, Kuwait, the UAE, and Erbil, Iraq. Meanwhile, the US Central Command (CENTCOM) has denied targeting civilian areas, and US Vice President J.D. Vance stated that an investigation into the incident would be conducted.

The Iranian side claims the attacks were not accidental, drawing parallels to a February 28 strike on a school and gymnasium that resulted in the deaths of approximately 200 students and teachers. Gholamhossein Darzi, Iran's Chargé d'Affaires at the UN, has addressed a letter to the UN Secretary-General and the Security Council, accusing Washington of violating international humanitarian law and warning that Iran will provide a "decisive and proportionate" response to any military aggression.

Tensions between the United States and Iran have historically fluctuated, often centered on regional security dynamics and the presence of US military assets in the Middle East. The UN Security Council frequently serves as a forum for diplomatic disputes regarding such escalations, though resolutions and consensus remain difficult to achieve given the divergent geopolitical interests of the permanent member states.
