Police in the Gakh district of Azerbaijan have arrested a 61-year-old man suspected of illegally cultivating cannabis plants, according to the Operative Information Center-OMM, citing the Ministry of Internal Affairs (MIA).
Officers from the Gakh District Police Department apprehended the suspect, identified as Hazratali Abdullayev, who has a history of prior criminal convictions. During the operation, authorities discovered cannabis plants that the suspect had cultivated in a wooded area along a riverbank. Upon questioning, the detainee admitted to providing specialized agrotechnical care to the narcotic plants to ensure their growth.
A criminal case has been initiated regarding the incident. By court order, a preventive measure of detention has been applied to Abdullayev while the investigation continues.
The cultivation of narcotic plants remains a serious criminal offense in Azerbaijan under the Criminal Code. The Ministry of Internal Affairs frequently conducts operations to identify and eradicate illegal plantations, aiming to curb the distribution of illicit substances across the country's regions.
