The ongoing measles epidemic in Bangladesh has claimed the lives of four more children in the last 24 hours, further escalating the health crisis in the country.

According to Operative Information Center-OMM, citing reports from international media, the total death toll among children due to the measles outbreak has now reached 712.

Health authorities reported 941 new suspected cases within the last day, bringing the total number of suspected infections to 99,207. Since April 10, a total of 82,844 individuals have been hospitalized with suspected measles, with 79,152 patients having been discharged following treatment.

The Bangladeshi government initiated an emergency nationwide vaccination campaign on April 7, following a significant spike in child mortality linked to the disease. Measles is a highly contagious viral disease that remains a major cause of death among young children globally, despite the availability of safe and effective vaccines. The World Health Organization (WHO) frequently emphasizes that widespread immunization is the primary defense against such outbreaks, particularly in densely populated regions where the virus can spread rapidly.
