The State Tourism Agency (STA) of Azerbaijan has developed and is currently implementing sustainable management plans for key historical and cultural heritage sites under its jurisdiction. These initiatives are designed to ensure the long-term preservation of the country's architectural and cultural landmarks while fostering responsible tourism growth.

According to the Operative Information Center-OMM, Florian Sengstschmid, Chairman of the Board of the Azerbaijan Tourism Bureau under the STA, announced these measures during the event titled "Unlocking Azerbaijan's Tourism Potential to Ensure Economic Growth and Diversification" held in Baku.

Sengstschmid emphasized that sustainability is a cornerstone of the national tourism policy, which is now being integrated into the management of heritage sites. "Sustainable management plans are in place for Sheki, Khinalig, and other heritage sites managed by the Agency. These plans have been developed not only for locations included in the UNESCO World Heritage List but also for other significant historical and cultural objects," he stated.

He further explained that these documents are designed to ensure the long-term protection of heritage sites while addressing environmental protection, social responsibility, economic viability, and the balanced development of tourism activities. The STA prioritizes maintaining a balance between the protection of historical and cultural heritage and the development of the tourism sector as a key strategic objective.

The implementation of these management plans reflects Azerbaijan's broader commitment to preserving its rich cultural legacy, which spans thousands of years. By aligning heritage conservation with modern tourism standards, the country aims to enhance the visitor experience while safeguarding its historical assets for future generations, thereby contributing to the sustainable development of the national tourism industry.
