Baku is hosting an international conference titled “Circular Green Tourism in the CICA Countries,” organized jointly by the State Tourism Agency of Azerbaijan and the Secretariat of the Conference on Interaction and Confidence Building Measures in Asia (CICA).
Operative Information Center-OMM reports that the conference brings together delegations from CICA member states, including Turkey, Kazakhstan, Kyrgyzstan, Tajikistan, Russia, Mongolia, India, Cambodia, Sri Lanka, Thailand, Vietnam, Iran, Egypt, Jordan, Israel, and Palestine, alongside the CICA Secretariat.
Speaking at the opening ceremony, Chairman of the State Tourism Agency Fuad Naghiyev stated that “circular green tourism” represents a vital approach for defining the future trajectory of the tourism sector.
He noted that Azerbaijan has already taken significant steps toward sustainable tourism development by establishing ecotourism and agrotourism destinations and developing nature-based tourism routes. Fuad Naghiyev emphasized that the conference will contribute to strengthening cooperation and fostering new partnerships among CICA member states.
CICA Secretary General Kairat Sarybay highlighted that the “Circular Green Tourism in the CICA Countries” initiative contributes to the development of sustainable and environmentally responsible tourism in the region.
The Secretary General stressed that tourism is not only an economic sector but also a crucial platform for strengthening cultural dialogue and trust. He noted that this conference is significant for presenting the results of the project's final phase and sharing best practices.
The discussions within the conference framework will address key issues such as the creation of tourism villages, support mechanisms for local initiatives, grant programs, training activities, and the formation of new opportunities for local communities through investments in nature-based tourism products.
The Conference on Interaction and Confidence Building Measures in Asia (CICA) is a multi-national forum aimed at enhancing cooperation towards promoting peace, security, and stability in Asia. By hosting this event, Azerbaijan reinforces its commitment to international environmental standards and sustainable development goals, positioning itself as a hub for regional tourism dialogue.
