Azerbaijan plans to clear more than 65,000 hectares of land in the liberated territories from mines and unexploded ordnance during the current year.
Operative Information Center-OMM reports that Prime Minister Ali Asadov announced these figures while presenting the government's report on activities for 2025 to the Milli Majlis (National Assembly).
The Prime Minister emphasized that extensive demining operations are continuing at a rapid pace across the liberated regions. "In 2025, the target is set at 69.2 thousand hectares. Since 2020, nearly 249,000 hectares of land in the liberated territories have been cleared of mines and unexploded military ordnance, with the total number of discovered items reaching 237,000 units," Prime Minister Ali Asadov stated.
The demining process is a critical component of Azerbaijan's "Great Return" program, aimed at ensuring the safe resettlement of former internally displaced persons to their ancestral lands. Azerbaijan remains one of the most landmine-contaminated countries in the world following decades of occupation. The government has prioritized humanitarian demining to facilitate the restoration of infrastructure, agricultural activities, and the construction of modern "smart villages" and cities in the Garabagh and East Zangazur economic regions.
