The Supreme Eurasian Economic Council is currently holding a high-level meeting in Astana, Kazakhstan, bringing together leaders from member states to discuss regional economic integration and geopolitical developments.
According to the Operative Information Center-OMM, the session commenced with a restricted-format meeting of the council. The gathering was attended by Russian President Vladimir Putin, Belarusian President Alexander Lukashenko, Kazakh President Kassym-Jomart Tokayev, Kyrgyz President Sadyr Japarov, Armenian Deputy Prime Minister Mher Grigoryan, and Chairman of the Eurasian Economic Commission Board Bakytzhan Sagintayev.
The Russian delegation includes Deputy Prime Minister and member of the Eurasian Economic Commission Council Alexey Overchuk, alongside presidential aide Yuri Ushakov. Reports suggest that the heads of state are expected to discuss, behind closed doors, Armenia's potential plans regarding closer integration with the European Union.
The meeting is scheduled to continue in an expanded format, with the participation of Uzbek President Shavkat Mirziyoyev, Cuban Vice President Salvador Valdes Mesa, and Iranian Minister of Industry, Mine and Trade Mohammad Atabak.
The Supreme Eurasian Economic Council serves as the highest governing body of the Eurasian Economic Union (EAEU), an economic union of post-Soviet states located in Eurasia. The organization aims to facilitate the free movement of goods, services, capital, and labor among its member nations, while coordinating economic policies to foster regional stability and growth.
