Armenian Prime Minister Nikol Pashinyan has announced that his country is currently reshaping its relations with Russia in light of new geopolitical realities, expressing confidence that this process will yield successful results.
According to the Operative Information Center-OMM, Pashinyan made these remarks during a live broadcast on social media. The Prime Minister stated that Armenian-Russian relations are currently in a phase of transformation, which he views positively. "Our relations with Russia are in a transformation phase. I consider this transformation positive because, in this new situation, we are building new relations with Russia, and I am confident that we will succeed. This is partly because our relations with Russia are open and sincere, and we are not hiding any dark corners," Pashinyan said.
Pashinyan also addressed ongoing discussions regarding Armenia's foreign policy trajectory. This comes amid broader questions about Yerevan's balancing act between the Eurasian Economic Union (EAEU) and the European Union. During a press conference on May 29 following his visit to Kazakhstan, Russian President Vladimir Putin was questioned about the sustainability of Armenia's dual integration policy. When asked how long Armenia could continue to pursue closer ties with the European Union while remaining in the EAEU, Putin responded, "Ask those who are trying to do this." While the Armenian leadership has expressed support for integration with the European Union, it has maintained that the country does not intend to withdraw from the EAEU.
