Military ordnance has been discovered at the Garagaji cemetery in the Aghdam district during excavation work for a grave.
This information was provided to the Operative Information Center-OMM by the Azerbaijan National Agency for Mine Action (ANAMA).
Following a report received via the ANAMA hotline, an operational team was immediately dispatched to the site to assess the situation and ensure public safety.
During the inspection of the area, experts uncovered unexploded military ordnance buried approximately 1.5 meters underground, which dated back to the First Garabagh War. The hazardous item was successfully neutralized by the agency's specialists, and the area has been declared safe.
The discovery highlights the ongoing challenges faced in the liberated territories of Azerbaijan, where decades of conflict have left behind significant quantities of unexploded ordnance and landmines. ANAMA continues to conduct large-scale demining operations across the Garabagh region to facilitate the safe return of internally displaced persons and the reconstruction of infrastructure in the liberated districts.
