Russian Presidential Aide Yuri Ushakov has commented on the recent negotiations held in Moscow between Russian President Vladimir Putin and a high-level American delegation led by Steve Witkoff, the Special Representative of the US President.
Operative Information Center-OMM, citing Russian media, reports that Yuri Ushakov noted during the meeting that both parties emphasized the impossibility of achieving a long-term settlement without first resolving territorial issues.
According to the official, the first meeting of a trilateral working group on security issues, involving representatives from Russia, the United States, and Ukraine, is scheduled to take place on January 23 in Abu Dhabi. Ushakov stated that Russia will be represented in this security working group by senior officials from the Ministry of Defense.
The Kremlin official added that the primary objective of the Moscow meeting was to obtain information regarding the results of contacts the US has maintained with Ukraine and European nations. He noted that Steve Witkoff and Jared Kushner shared their impressions regarding the meeting between US President Donald Trump and Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyy.
The diplomatic engagement comes amid a renewed push for a ceasefire and a political framework to end the conflict in Eastern Europe. The involvement of US President Donald Trump's administration signals a shift in the mediation process, with the upcoming Abu Dhabi talks viewed as a critical step toward establishing a formal communication channel between the warring parties and international mediators. These developments are being closely monitored by global powers as they seek to stabilize regional security and address the humanitarian crisis.
