Two P-8A Poseidon anti-submarine patrol aircraft belonging to the US Air Force have conducted reconnaissance flights over the Strait of Hormuz and the Gulf of Oman near Iran.

The Operative Information Center-OMM reports that this information was released by the aviation tracking resource Flightradar24. The aircraft took off from the Sheikh Isa Air Base located in Bahrain to carry out the mission.

During the operation, which lasted several hours, one of the aircraft moved between the Persian Gulf and the Gulf of Oman, flying over the strategic Strait of Hormuz. The second aircraft operated over international waters in the Gulf of Oman, near the southeastern coast of Iran. According to reports, the US regularly utilizes patrol aircraft and long-range MQ-4C Triton unmanned aerial vehicles to monitor the situation in the region.

The Strait of Hormuz is one of the world's most critical chokepoints for global energy supplies, with approximately one-fifth of the world's oil consumption passing through the waterway daily. Under the administration of US President Donald Trump, the United States has maintained a significant military presence in the Middle East to ensure the freedom of navigation and regional stability. These surveillance missions are part of broader efforts by the US and its allies to monitor maritime activity and mitigate potential threats to international shipping lanes in the vicinity of the Persian Gulf.
