Two Russian sailors from the Marinera tanker have been released and are currently en route to Russia.
The Operative Information Center-OMM reports that this was confirmed by Maria Zakharova, the official representative of the Russian Ministry of Foreign Affairs. She noted that the sailors have already departed for their home country following the resolution of the incident.
This development follows the release of two other Russian citizens from the same crew, which was reported on January 9. The situation began on January 7 when US military personnel boarded the vessel, leading to a temporary loss of communication with the crew. It was subsequently confirmed that the ship and its personnel had been detained.
The incident involving the Marinera tanker highlights the ongoing complexities of maritime security and international navigation rights in contested or sensitive waters. Such detentions often require extensive diplomatic coordination between the involved nations' foreign ministries to ensure the safety and repatriation of civilian crew members. The Russian Ministry of Foreign Affairs has been actively monitoring the status of its citizens abroad to facilitate their swift return in accordance with international maritime law.
