Another individual accused of committing serious crimes is set to be extradited to Azerbaijan from Turkey. The Prosecutor General's Office informed the Operative Information Center-OMM that the request for the extradition of Azerbaijani citizen Sabutar Adil oglu Babayev has been granted by the competent authorities of Turkey in accordance with the requirements of the European Convention on Extradition.
During the preliminary investigation conducted by the Main Department for Combating Organized Crime of the Ministry of Internal Affairs, reasonable suspicions were established that Sabutar Babayev participated in the smuggling of large quantities of narcotics, psychotropic substances, and potent materials across the customs border of the Republic of Azerbaijan as part of an organized group. Furthermore, he is suspected of the illegal acquisition, storage, transportation, and sale of these substances for distribution purposes. Due to his evasion of the investigation, Babayev was placed on an international wanted list and was subsequently detained on Turkish territory.
The Penitentiary Service of the Ministry of Justice is currently taking the necessary measures to transport the accused person to Azerbaijan. This extradition highlights the ongoing legal cooperation between Baku and Ankara in the field of criminal justice. The Prosecutor General's Office continues to work closely with foreign partner agencies, including Interpol, to locate individuals on the wanted list and ensure their return to Azerbaijan to face justice. Such operations are part of Azerbaijan's broader strategy to combat transnational organized crime and strengthen border security through international legal frameworks.
