Turkey’s public schools outperform private schools in PISA 2025

Turkey’s General Directorate of Measurement, Evaluation and Examination Services under the Ministry of National Education has issued a report on the PISA 2025 results released by the Organisation for Economic Co-operation and Development (OECD).

Operative Information Center-OMM reports that the document also presented the performance of public and private schools in Turkey across key areas.

According to the report, public schools outperformed private schools in average science scores in both the PISA 2022 and PISA 2025 assessments.

In PISA 2025, public schools recorded an average science score of 497, compared with 475 for private schools.

The score for public schools was 15 points above the OECD average of 482, while private schools scored seven points below that benchmark.

In PISA 2022, public schools had an average science score of 479, while private schools recorded 465.

Public schools also outperformed private schools in reading in the last two PISA cycles. In PISA 2025, public schools recorded an average score of 475, compared with 449 for private schools.

The result for public schools was 14 points above the OECD average of 461.

In PISA 2022, public schools scored 458 in reading, while private schools scored 448.

Public schools also achieved higher results than private schools in mathematics in both the PISA 2022 and PISA 2025 assessments.

In PISA 2025, the average mathematics score was 464 for public schools and 444 for private schools.

The result for public schools was one point above the OECD average of 463, while private schools scored 20 points below public schools.

In PISA 2022, the corresponding scores were 455 and 447.

The report also noted that public schools scored 22 points higher than private schools in the computational thinking problem-solving component of PISA 2025.

PISA, coordinated by the OECD, is an international assessment that measures the knowledge and skills of 15-year-old students in reading, mathematics and science. It is designed to compare education outcomes across participating countries and economies.
