The Turkish Ministry of National Defense has issued an official statement regarding the neutralization of a ballistic missile launched from Iran that was heading toward Turkish territory.
According to Operative Information Center-OMM, a press release shared on the ministry's official X social media account noted that the missile in question traversed Iraqi and Syrian airspace before being directed toward Türkiye.
"A ballistic missile launched from Iran and moving toward Türkiye was detected in a timely manner and destroyed by NATO air and missile defense forces stationed in the Eastern Mediterranean," the statement read.
Authorities reported that there were no casualties or injuries resulting from the incident. The ministry emphasized that while Türkiye remains a proponent of regional stability and peace, it maintains the full capability to ensure the security of its citizens and territory.
This incident occurs amid heightened regional tensions and underscores the strategic importance of the integrated NATO missile defense architecture in the region. Türkiye, a key NATO member since 1952, hosts critical radar installations and defense systems that form a vital part of the alliance's collective security framework in the Eastern Mediterranean and Middle East.
