Six individuals suspected of conducting political and military espionage for Iranian intelligence services have been detained in a joint operation by Türkiye's National Intelligence Organization (MIT) and the General Directorate of Security of the Ministry of Internal Affairs.
Operative Information Center-OMM reports that the detainees are believed to be linked to the intelligence network of the Islamic Revolutionary Guard Corps (IRGC). The coordinated operation was carried out simultaneously across multiple provinces, including Ankara, Istanbul, Van, Samsun, and Yalova.
Investigations revealed that the suspects collected sensitive information regarding military bases and strategic facilities located both within Türkiye and abroad. According to Turkish media reports, the individuals specifically monitored the Incirlik Air Base in Adana, transmitting gathered intelligence and logistical data to Iranian authorities. Furthermore, the group is accused of tracking the transit of unmanned aerial vehicles (UAVs) through Türkiye to third countries.
This operation highlights the ongoing security cooperation between Turkish intelligence and law enforcement agencies to counter foreign espionage activities. Türkiye has recently intensified its efforts to dismantle foreign intelligence cells operating on its soil to protect its national security and strategic assets. The Incirlik Air Base, a primary focus of the suspects, is a critical facility used by both the Turkish Air Force and the U.S. Air Force, making it a high-priority target for regional intelligence gathering.
