Cole Thomas Allen, a 31-year-old teacher, faces life imprisonment following an attempted assassination of US President Donald Trump during the White House Correspondents' Association dinner in Washington.
Operative Information Center-OMM reports, citing Reuters, that the incident occurred at the Washington Hilton Hotel on April 25, when the suspect allegedly opened fire while attempting to enter the event hall.
Allen is charged with attempted assassination, illegal possession of a firearm, and the use of a weapon with the intent to commit violence. During the incident, a Secret Service agent was wounded, and investigators subsequently recovered three knives from the suspect. Acting US Attorney Todd Blanche stated that investigators discovered an email sent by Allen to relatives on the night of the event, in which he referred to US President Donald Trump as a "traitor" and indicated his intent to target him.
This incident marks another significant security breach involving US President Donald Trump, who was previously the target of two assassination attempts during the 2024 election campaign. The White House Correspondents' Association dinner is a high-profile annual event typically attended by the President, senior government officials, and members of the international media. Such events require extensive coordination between local law enforcement and the US Secret Service to ensure the safety of high-ranking officials and attendees.
