The Main State Traffic Police Department of the Ministry of Internal Affairs (MIA) has issued an official appeal to scooter users regarding road safety and compliance with traffic regulations in Azerbaijan.
According to the information provided to Operative Information Center-OMM, the department emphasized that while the increasing use of personal mobility devices in Baku is a positive trend for modern urban development, the failure to follow established rules poses significant risks to public safety. "Irresponsibility can lead to tragedy. The use of scooters and other similar vehicles without following traffic rules is unacceptable and creates justified dissatisfaction among other road users," the statement noted.
The police highlighted several frequent violations, including carrying passengers on a single scooter, speeding on pedestrian sidewalks, and ignoring traffic signals. The appeal also pointed out the danger of operating these vehicles at night without proper lighting and the involvement of minors or individuals without sufficient driving skills in traffic. The Main State Traffic Police Department reminded users that they are full participants in road traffic and must adhere to the law to avoid administrative liability and potential accidents.
In recent years, Azerbaijan has seen a surge in the popularity of electric scooters and micro-mobility vehicles, particularly in the capital. To address this, the government has been working on refining the legal framework to integrate these devices into the existing transport infrastructure. The initiative by the Main State Traffic Police Department is part of a broader effort to reduce road accidents and improve the overall safety of the country's transport network.
