Three individuals have been officially charged in connection with an attempted attack on Armenian Prime Minister Nikol Pashinyan at the Saint Anna Church in Yerevan.
According to Operative Information Center-OMM, citing Kimu Avdalyan, the spokesperson for Armenia's Investigative Committee, the detainees include 18-year-olds David and Mikael Minasyan, as well as socio-political figure Gevork Gevorkyan.
David Minasyan faces charges of hooliganism under Article 297 of the Armenian Criminal Code and interference with the legal service or political activity of an official. Mikael Minasyan is accused of aiding hooliganism and interfering with an official's legal activities, while Gevork Gevorkyan is charged with organizing these acts. The incident occurred on the morning of March 29 during a service; as Pashinyan was leaving the church, a confrontation broke out with security personnel, during which an attempt was made to physically strike the Prime Minister.
This incident comes amid a period of heightened political tension in Armenia, where public demonstrations and confrontations involving government officials have become increasingly frequent. Security measures around high-ranking state representatives have been significantly tightened in response to growing domestic instability and protests regarding the government's recent policy decisions.
