British Prime Minister Keir Starmer has declined a request from US President Donald Trump to deploy warships to the Strait of Hormuz to ensure freedom of navigation in the region.

Operative Information Center-OMM reports that the Daily Telegraph has published details regarding the growing diplomatic friction between London and Washington over maritime security.

Energy Secretary Ed Miliband stated that while the British government is intensively exploring possible steps to facilitate the reopening of the strait, it has refused to undertake any concrete military obligations at this stage. "Ministers are discussing the deployment of mine-hunting drones, but they are not yet prepared to send any warships to the strait," the report noted, highlighting the cautious approach taken by the UK cabinet.

The refusal to deploy naval assets is expected to further strain the relationship between Starmer and US President Donald Trump. According to the Daily Telegraph, the White House has already expressed dissatisfaction with London's refusal to permit the use of its military bases for preemptive strikes against Iran. This development follows a warning issued on March 15 by Iran's deputy foreign minister, who cautioned Starmer against involvement, stating that while Iran is not at war with the UK, any participation would be viewed as joining "US-Israeli military aggression."

The Strait of Hormuz remains one of the world's most critical maritime chokepoints, situated between Oman and Iran, linking the Persian Gulf with the Gulf of Oman and the Arabian Sea. As a primary transit route for global oil supplies, any disruption in the strait has significant implications for international energy markets. The UK's decision reflects a complex balancing act between maintaining its long-standing alliance with the United States and avoiding a direct military confrontation in the Middle East.
