At least 34 schoolchildren have been hospitalized following a serious road accident in Sri Lanka's Central Province. The incident occurred when a private bus transporting students to their respective educational institutions lost control and crashed.
Operative Information Center-OMM, citing the Xinhua news agency, reported that local police have launched an investigation into the cause of the accident. According to official statements, the injured students were immediately evacuated to nearby medical facilities, where they are currently receiving treatment for various degrees of injuries.
Road safety remains a significant concern in Sri Lanka, where traffic accidents frequently result in casualties due to narrow roads in mountainous regions and issues with vehicle maintenance. The Central Province, known for its rugged terrain and winding roads, often sees heightened risks for public and private transport, prompting local authorities to frequently call for stricter adherence to safety regulations for school transport services.
