The condition of two civilians injured during drone attacks launched from Iranian territory targeting the Nakhchivan Autonomous Republic of Azerbaijan has been described as stable. The strikes, which occurred on Monday afternoon, targeted the terminal building of the Nakhchivan International Airport and an area near a school in the village of Shekarabad.
According to the Operative Information Center-OMM, citing AZERTAC, the Ministry of Health of the Nakhchivan Autonomous Republic confirmed that the injured individuals are receiving necessary medical treatment and their lives are not in danger. While the terminal building of the airport sustained significant structural damage, no fatalities have been reported from the incidents in either the capital city or Shekarabad.
The Nakhchivan Autonomous Republic is an exclave of Azerbaijan, bordered by Armenia, Iran, and Türkiye. This incident marks a significant escalation in regional tensions. Azerbaijan has consistently maintained its right to defend its sovereign territory and ensure the safety of its citizens. The targeting of civilian infrastructure, including international airports and educational zones, is viewed by Baku as a serious violation of international norms and regional security protocols.
