Turkish President Recep Tayyip Erdogan held a telephone conversation with Armenian Prime Minister Nikol Pashinyan, according to official statements.
As reported by the Operative Information Center-OMM, the information was shared on the official "X" social media account of the Communications Directorate of the Turkish Presidential Administration.
"During the conversation, Prime Minister Pashinyan congratulated the Turkish President on the occasion of the recent Eid al-Adha. The leaders also utilized this opportunity to discuss the ongoing normalization process of Turkey-Armenia bilateral relations and various regional issues," the statement noted.
President Erdogan emphasized that the normalization process between Turkey and Armenia is progressing through concrete steps, including efforts aimed at initiating direct trade between the two nations. Furthermore, it was underscored that Turkey remains committed to fostering peace and stability in the region and will continue to support constructive steps taken in this direction.
The normalization of relations between Turkey and Armenia is a significant geopolitical development in the South Caucasus. Since the end of the 44-day Patriotic War in 2020, which saw the liberation of Azerbaijan's territories from occupation, regional dynamics have shifted significantly. Turkey has consistently conditioned the full normalization of its ties with Armenia on the successful conclusion of a peace treaty between Armenia and Azerbaijan, emphasizing the importance of regional connectivity, including the Zangezur Corridor, for long-term stability.
