President Ilham Aliyev holds expanded meeting with Turkmen leader

On June 22, President of Azerbaijan Ilham Aliyev held an expanded meeting with President of Turkmenistan Serdar Berdimuhamedov. The discussions centered on strengthening bilateral ties, with a particular focus on strategic partnership and cooperation in the energy and transport sectors.

According to the Operative Information Center-OMM, President Ilham Aliyev expressed his gratitude to President Serdar Berdimuhamedov for his state visit to Azerbaijan, emphasizing the significance of this trip in reinforcing the bonds of friendship and brotherhood between the two nations. The Azerbaijani leader highlighted the extensive agenda covering all areas of mutual cooperation and expressed satisfaction with the high-level delegation accompanying the Turkmen President.

President Ilham Aliyev underscored the critical role both nations play in regional and global energy and transport security. He noted that the positive development of geopolitical processes across the Eurasian continent will increasingly depend on the close interaction between Azerbaijan and Turkmenistan in these strategic fields. Furthermore, the President acknowledged the construction of a mosque in the city of Fuzuli as a gift from Turkmenistan, describing it as a powerful symbol of the sincere fraternal relations between the two peoples.

In response, President Serdar Berdimuhamedov thanked the Azerbaijani side for the warm hospitality and emphasized the importance of high-level contacts in driving bilateral relations forward. He highlighted the success of the Turkmenistan-Azerbaijan-Georgia-Turkey transport corridor and expressed support for the creation of a Caspian Sea-Black Sea transport corridor. The Turkmen leader also stressed the importance of strengthening the activities of the Intergovernmental Commission on Economic Cooperation to fully realize the existing potential between the two countries.

The meeting underscored the deep historical and cultural ties that unite Azerbaijan and Turkmenistan. Both leaders reaffirmed their commitment to supporting each other's international initiatives within organizations such as the UN, the Organization of Economic Cooperation, the Organization of Islamic Cooperation, and the Organization of Turkic States. This visit marks a significant milestone in the ongoing dialogue between Baku and Ashgabat, aiming to further deepen cooperation in political, economic, and humanitarian spheres.
