Electrical cables with a total value of 70,000 AZN have been stolen from various locations across Baku's Sabunchu and Khazar districts, as well as the Absheron region. The theft caused significant damage to the local power infrastructure.
According to the Operative Information Center-OMM, the Ministry of Internal Affairs (MIA) reported that officers from the 15th Police Precinct of the Sabunchu District Police Department successfully identified and detained the suspect, 42-year-old Zamin Jafarov, who has a prior criminal record.
Preliminary investigations revealed that the suspect targeted electrical lines during nighttime hours, dismantling and stealing the cables before selling them to non-ferrous metal collection points. Law enforcement agencies are continuing their investigation into the incidents to determine the full extent of the damage and identify any potential accomplices.
Theft of public infrastructure, particularly electrical wiring, poses serious risks to the stability of the power grid and public safety. Azerbaijani law enforcement frequently conducts operations to curb such criminal activities, which not only result in financial losses for utility providers but also cause service disruptions for residents and businesses in the affected areas.
