Russia and Ukraine continued exchanging strikes. According to Ukraine’s border service, Russia struck a crossing on the Ukraine-Moldova border overnight.
Oleh Kiper, governor of Ukraine’s Odesa region, said two people were killed and three injured in the attack. Another 16 people were evacuated to a safe area. The crossing near the village of Starokozache suspended operations after the strike.
Russian strikes also damaged port, transport and civilian infrastructure in Mykolaiv in southern Ukraine. According to a local official, one person was killed and several others were injured.
Strikes on the Ukrainian city of Dnipro sent a 51-year-old man and a 52-year-old woman to hospital. In Kherson, a 70-year-old woman was killed when a Russian drone crashed into a residential building. Three people were injured and administrative buildings were damaged in a drone attack in the village of Zolochiv in Kharkiv region.
Ukraine, meanwhile, used drones to strike an oil terminal in the Russian city of Novorossiysk. The Kyiv Independent reported the incident, citing monitoring channels. Novorossiysk Mayor Andrey Kravchenko confirmed that drone attacks had taken place in the city and urged residents to shelter in rooms without windows or in basements.
Several districts of Ukraine’s capital, Kyiv, also came under attack overnight. Ukraine’s State Emergency Service said the strikes caused fires but there were no deaths or injuries.
US Secretary of State Marco Rubio said peace talks between Russia and Ukraine could resume in the coming weeks. He said it was possible to develop an action plan aimed at reaching a solution acceptable to both sides.
The latest attacks come amid continued hostilities between Russia and Ukraine, with strikes repeatedly affecting military, energy, transport and civilian infrastructure. Claims about damage and casualties are generally issued separately by the parties and may not be independently verified.
