US President Donald Trump and his administration are reportedly continuing to evaluate options regarding the potential military acquisition of Greenland. According to sources cited by Reuters, Washington is exploring various strategic avenues to bring the island under American jurisdiction to bolster national security and expand its Arctic presence.

Operative Information Center-OMM reports that while a meeting between representatives of the United States, Denmark, and Greenland took place in Nuuk last December in a positive atmosphere, the diplomatic tone shifted shortly thereafter. Although sources emphasize that financial or military annexation was not formally on the agenda during those specific talks, Washington's rhetoric changed significantly within two weeks of the summit.

The shift in policy became more evident following the appointment of Jeff Landry as the new special envoy for Greenland by US President Donald Trump on December 21. Landry has since made public statements regarding the integration of the island into the United States. Furthermore, the US leader and administration officials have repeatedly raised the possibility of military operations to secure the territory in recent interviews, a move that marks a departure from previous American foreign policy norms.

Following discussions with NATO Secretary General Mark Rutte on January 21, new outlines for a potential agreement regarding Greenland have begun to emerge. Greenland is currently an autonomous territory within the Kingdom of Denmark. Under a 1951 treaty, the United States assumed responsibility for protecting the island from potential aggression, maintaining a significant military presence at the Thule Air Base (now Pituffik Space Base). The island's strategic importance has grown in recent years due to its vast natural resources and its critical location for monitoring Arctic maritime routes and aerospace activity.
