BAKU, Azerbaijan — The Ministry of Science and Education of the Republic of Azerbaijan has successfully implemented the "Digital School" platform, a next-generation electronic education and management system. The digital.edu.az portal currently serves over 500,000 students across 324 schools in Baku, providing a comprehensive digital environment for learning, teaching, and administrative cooperation.
According to official statements, the platform integrates essential academic tools including electronic journals, grading systems, attendance tracking, and interactive video lessons. While parents and teachers access the system via the SİMA digital signature for enhanced security, students utilize their unique UTİS codes. The initiative aims to eliminate traditional paper-based record-keeping and foster real-time communication between educators and families. All services provided on the platform are free of charge for the public.
This digital transformation aligns with Azerbaijan's broader strategy to modernize its national education infrastructure and promote digital literacy. By centralizing educational resources—including 932 topics for primary grades and 367 topics for grades 5-7—the Ministry ensures equitable access to quality materials. The "Digital School" (digital.edu.az) functions as a management and assessment hub, distinct from the "Virtual School" (virtual.edu.az) platform used for distance learning via Microsoft Teams. Following the successful pilot phase in the capital, the government plans a phased expansion of the system to all regions across Azerbaijan.
What is the Digital School?
The Digital School is a national online education platform created to ensure the application of modern teaching technologies, interactivity, and accessibility in general education institutions. The official addresses for the platform are digital.edu.az and reqemsal.edu.az.
Unlike traditional paper journals, the digital school moves the entire educational process to an electronic environment: lesson schedules, assessment, attendance, homework, video lessons, and parent-teacher communication are combined in one platform.
The platform features individual cabinets for four categories of users:
- Student cabinet
- Parent cabinet
- Teacher cabinet
- School leader (Director) cabinet
