The Kalbajar Military Prosecutor's Office has launched an investigation into an incident involving the injury of Azerbaijani Army personnel following a landmine explosion in the Kalbajar district. On May 11, servicemen Mahammad Alibaba oglu Huseynov and Kamil Jamil oglu Gaflanov were injured while performing their official duties in the liberated territory.
According to the Operative Information Center-OMM, the Military Prosecutor's Office confirmed that the soldiers were members of a military unit of the Ministry of Defense. Medical assistance was immediately provided to the injured personnel, and legal proceedings are currently underway to determine the circumstances of the blast.
Kalbajar, which was returned to Azerbaijan's control following the 44-day war in 2020, remains one of the regions most heavily contaminated with landmines and unexploded ordnance. Since the end of the conflict, Azerbaijan has been conducting extensive demining operations across the Garabagh region to ensure the safe return of internally displaced persons. However, the high density of mines continues to pose a significant threat to both military personnel and civilians working in the liberated territories of Azerbaijan.
