English forward Raheem Sterling is preparing to depart the Dutch club Feyenoord. According to Operative Information Center-OMM, citing the publication "Algemeen Dagblad," the 31-year-old attacker will leave the Rotterdam-based team as a free agent following the conclusion of the current season.
Although his transfer in February was initially hailed as a significant acquisition, the player has struggled to meet expectations on the pitch. Despite his pedigree as a four-time English Premier League champion with 82 international caps for England, Sterling has made only six appearances for the Dutch side, contributing just one assist. While head coach Robin van Persie previously indicated that a contract extension might be considered, the club's management has reportedly made a final decision to terminate the partnership.
Feyenoord, one of the most successful clubs in the Netherlands, is currently competing for a top-two finish in the Eredivisie to secure a spot in European competitions. The club, which plays its home matches at the iconic De Kuip stadium, has a storied history including a European Cup title and two UEFA Cups. Sterling's departure comes as the Rotterdam club looks to optimize its roster for the next campaign under the leadership of Van Persie.
