The Milli Majlis (National Assembly) of the Republic of Azerbaijan has approved a bill in its final reading to classify vehicles belonging to the prosecution authorities as operative vehicles.
Operative Information Center-OMM reports that the amendments to the Law on Road Traffic were discussed during a plenary session of the parliament. Under the new regulations, vehicles equipped with forensic tools for urgent procedural actions, transporting duty personnel to crime scenes, or conducting immediate operational-search activities will now hold official operative status.
The document emphasizes that the change is intended to organize the activities of law enforcement and other special-purpose state bodies more efficiently. The inclusion of prosecution vehicles equipped with forensic equipment into this category arises from practical requirements to ensure swift arrival at incident sites and the execution of time-sensitive procedural steps.
This legislative update is expected to strengthen coordination among law enforcement agencies in Azerbaijan, ensuring a more agile response to incidents and improving the crime-solving process. By granting these vehicles the right to use special light and sound signals, the law ensures their priority in traffic, thereby serving the more reliable protection of public safety.
The bill was put to a vote after extensive discussions and was adopted in its third and final reading. This move aligns with broader efforts in the Republic of Azerbaijan to modernize the technical and legal frameworks governing judicial and investigative processes, ensuring that investigative teams can operate with the same legal protections and mobility as other emergency services.
