President of the Republic of Azerbaijan Ilham Aliyev and President of the Slovak Republic Peter Pellegrini, who is on an official visit to the country, reviewed reconstruction efforts in the village of Bash Garvand in the Aghdam district on July 14. During their visit, the two leaders laid the foundation for the Bash Garvand village secondary school, named after Milan Rastislav Stefanik, which will accommodate 840 students.
According to the Operative Information Center-OMM, Emin Huseynov, the Special Representative of the President of the Republic of Azerbaijan in the liberated territories of the Aghdam, Fuzuli, and Khojavand districts, briefed the presidents on the ongoing development projects in Bash Garvand.
Bash Garvand is located 18 kilometers from the center of Aghdam, situated along the Barda-Aghdam highway and railway line. The village, which remained under Armenian occupation for many years, was liberated on November 20, 2020. President Ilham Aliyev laid the foundation for the village's reconstruction on December 24, 2023.
The village is currently undergoing comprehensive development, including the construction of essential social infrastructure such as administrative buildings, a medical center, and kindergartens. The project includes the construction of 35 kilometers of roads and the installation of modern utility networks for electricity, gas, water, and sewage. To promote sustainability, the village will utilize alternative energy sources.
Regarding the new school, officials noted that the facility will span three hectares and feature 35 classrooms, specialized laboratories for physics, biology, and chemistry, as well as computer and military training rooms. The school will also include sports facilities and solar panels for energy efficiency. Notably, Slovak companies are participating in the construction of the village, and the school itself is being gifted to Azerbaijan by Slovakia.
Following the ceremony, the heads of state inspected a newly constructed house in the village. The village, covering approximately 480 hectares, is being rebuilt in two phases. The first phase, spanning over 200 hectares, involves the construction of 851 private houses designed to accommodate 3,703 residents.
The reconstruction of Aghdam and other liberated territories is a cornerstone of Azerbaijan's post-conflict development strategy, aimed at facilitating the 'Great Return' of former internally displaced persons to their ancestral lands through the implementation of 'smart village' concepts and modern urban planning.
