Shamakhi has transformed into one of the primary tourism centers of Azerbaijan due to extensive development projects carried out in the region, President Ilham Aliyev stated during his visit to the district.
As reported by the Operative Information Center-OMM, the head of state made these remarks during a meeting with employees at the opening of the "Shirvan Agro" livestock complex in the Shamakhi district. President Ilham Aliyev emphasized that the establishment of modern recreation zones, hotels, and various catering, cultural, and educational facilities has significantly boosted the region's profile. "The Shamakhi-Baku highway is also very modern. There are now new opportunities for communication both with Baku and with the western and north-western regions of our country," the President added.
Shamakhi, one of Azerbaijan's most ancient cities, serves as a vital cultural and historical destination located on the slopes of the Greater Caucasus Mountains. In recent years, the government of Azerbaijan has prioritized the diversification of the economy by investing heavily in regional infrastructure and the non-oil sector. The development of the Shamakhi-Baku corridor and the promotion of agro-tourism are central to the state's strategy to enhance the socio-economic welfare of the regions while preserving the historical heritage of the Republic of Azerbaijan.
