An act of terror has been committed by Iran against the territory and state of Azerbaijan, President Ilham Aliyev announced during a meeting of the Security Council.
Operative Information Center-OMM reports that the head of state provided details regarding the recent escalation. "The Iranian state targeted the territory of the Nakhchivan Autonomous Republic using unmanned aerial vehicles. The targets of the strikes were civilian objects. The Nakhchivan International Airport, its terminal building, a school, and other locations were subjected to treacherous fire by the Iranian side. The state of Azerbaijan resolutely condemns this heinous act of terror; those who committed it must be immediately held accountable. Iranian officials must provide an explanation to the Azerbaijani side, an apology must be issued, and the perpetrators of this terrorist act must be brought to criminal justice," the head of state emphasized.
The Security Council meeting comes amid heightened regional tensions and underscores Azerbaijan's commitment to protecting its sovereign borders and civilian population. Nakhchivan, an exclave of Azerbaijan, holds strategic importance and shares a significant border with Iran. This incident marks a serious violation of international law and regional stability norms. Azerbaijan maintains a firm stance on its territorial integrity and has consistently called for peaceful coexistence, while making it clear that any aggression against its sovereign territory will be met with necessary legal and diplomatic measures.
